0

Aberdeen, the third most populous city of Scotland, is located alongside the North Sea. The city is known as being the petroleum capital of Europe as well as having beautiful beaches and parks for touristic purposes.

The best time to visit the city would be between June and September as Aberdeen has ocean climate. You can reach the city through Aberdeen Airport (ABZ).

To Do List in Aberdeen

First of all, I attempt to discover the city over the sea. There are many touristic boat tours in Aberdeen. I get to know the unknown wildlife of the city by taking loads of pictures, making new friends and having real fun in the boat. Right after the boat trip, this time I want to swim in the very same sea and I head to Balmedie Beach.

This spot is the best place in Aberdeen to spend the noon time. It was calm, not crowded at all, perhaps because I visited in the weekday. Thanks to the endless beach, I could take a long walk. Another popular beach in Aberdeen is the City Beach. You would love to walk your dog here.

Next destinations are surely museums and art galleries. There are more art galleries in the city than I expected. Even though it is impossible to see all of them, I try to list some important ones.

If you are into maritime history, ”Aberdeen Maritime Museum” can be the place. It is near a hotel called Ibis Aberdeen Centre. Another option is the Gordon Highlanders Museum although I had a difficult time to read the captions due to low light inside. If you like modern art, Aberdeen Art Gallery is a place you must give a visit; there are amazing collections. Also, breath taking beauty ”Pitmedden Garden & Museum of Farming Life” is a magnificent garden to see.

Right after museums and art galleries, I want to leave myself to the parks in my third day in the city. Duthie Park, Johnstone Gardens, Hazlehead Park and Seaton Park will take your breath away while you take a walk in the green. They all seem like they have just come from heavens. Colorful parks will also be interesting for visitors with children.

The parks are safe for kids as well as giving you an enjoyable time during the day. However, I have enough of natural time and so ready to dive into metropolitan. Union Street is a great place to observe the typical daily life of the city and to do some shopping. There are lots of shops and malls that shopping options are limitless. It is good to remember that this is also a place to remind you Aberdeen is an expensive city for shopping.

As for what to eat, options are wider with comparison to shopping options. You can find both luxurious restaurants and economical ones. I prefer traditional food.

People prefer to eat some sausages for the breakfasts, ”the square sausage” is a kind. This can also be used in a sandwich for the lunch. As for the dinner; cullen skink a fish soup strikes as a starter, after that some ”porridge” comes together with ‘haggis’ which is a special meal cooked with giblets. You will definitely satisfy your hunger.

As a last recommendation; if you can have a right timing, you should see the festivals in this city. In January, ”All Areas, Scotland” and Six Cities Design Festival are the events to go. Also, Aberdeen Music Festival can be interesting for May visitors.
