The best time to visit this city that has a Mediterranean climate is the period between May and September. You can reach the city via three hour bus trip from the capital city Skopje.

Ohrid Travel Tips

Transportation

For transportation within Ohrid, you can discover all the city just by walking. As a matter of fact, many places are within walking distance. It does not mean that there is no need for a taxi. But do not forget to ask the driver to open the taximeter. You can even bargain too.

Accommodation

There are multiple options for accommodation in Ohrid. Wide range of options from Luxury hotels to camping (of course in camping season) can be found in Ohrid. The most luxurious hotels of Ohrid are Hotel Gorica, Aleksandar Villa, Hotel Granit, Hotel Sileks, Hotel Belvedere, Hotel Donco and Millenium Palace.

Where to visit in Ohrid

It is time for me to discover the city now. I do my best to visit places as much as possible. The first route is Tsar Samuel’s Fortress. I am really happy that I did not forget my camera. So I have taken my first shot of Ohrid. My next address is Ancient Theatre of Ohrid.

Respectively, St. Jovan Kaneo, Lake Ohrid, Monastery of Saint Naum, National Park Galicica, Sveti Kliment Ohridski and National Ohrid Museum – Robevci House at last; I partially finish my Ohrid guide.

There are a lot of places that I, unfortunately, haven’t seen yet. So I have already planned my next trip :) We promised each other with mates during our tour to come back to discover the places that we haven’t seen before in Ohrid.

Shopping

After the essential visiting spots, I find myself in shopping centers. Goods made of Copper, wood carvings, musical instruments and wirework jewelry are the primary ideals to buy in Ohrid. Especially wirework jewellery was gorgeous I bought them for my friends and myself.

By the way, I clearly understood the fact that in terms of shopping, Ohrid is an expensive place. When compared to other cities it was a bit expensive for me. It may be due to the touristic season which was exactly the same time with my Ohrid trip. The prices are relatively higher than other regions. If you have the time, you must certainly join Ohrid Summer Festival and Balkans Folklore Festival.

What to eat in Ohrid

Now it came to the taste of Ohrid’s traditional cuisine. Unfortunately, restaurants are expensive too. But if you walk around, you have the chance to find more affordable eat/drink places. Fishing is not allowed in the city except for a fish named ‘Belvica’ they sell.

Initially, I started with a soup called ‘Ribna’ to explore the tastes of Ohrid. I introduced myself as a tourist to the waiter and asked to bring traditional foods of the city. The waiter stated that I was successful in soup choice and offered me to have ‘Makalo’ which is a blend of yoghurt and garlic.

Of course, I couldn’t escape from stomach bloating after having the fish ‘Belvica’. Then I completely relieved when I drank the tea they served. I had the breakfast in another nice restaurant next morning. I started the day having a type of pastry called ‘Burek’.

I enjoyed the morning tasting spinach and cheese types of Burek. After drinking coffee and tea, my time was almost up. Then I get back to the hotel, and I got my luggage that I have already packed up a night before if only not for missing the breakfast joy and leave this wonderful and lovely city.
